JGMF - I enjoyed the write-up and the pictures from the night before. I'm glad they agreed with me (whew!). The next night is pretty bad in my opinion but I'd love to hear if you guys think differently. Here's the run-down:

01-22-71 Lane Community College, Eugene, OR (Friday)
1: Introduction by Ken Babbs, Casey Jones, Beat It On Down The Line, It Hurts Me Too, Me & My Uncle, Cold Rain & Snow, Hard To Handle, tuning, Brokedown Palace, Johnny B. Goode
2: China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider

This starts out pretty mellow. I think they are just practicing for the upcoming February shows. The poor sound MIGHT have something to do with it but the playing doesn’t seem inspired. It was a hard concert to get all the way through.

Set 1
After the Intro they go right into Casey Jones which is good but that’s all. BIODTL leads into It Hurts Me Too which is good but not as soulful as we’ll hear in 72. MAMU is a total meh. Cold Rain and Snow is probably the slowest I’ve ever heard, I’ve never heard it so limp and mellow. They tried out a bunch of new things with the jam in Hard to Handle but it never went anywhere from a listening perspective. Brokedown Palace is just ok. JBG gets a fairly good groove but just kind of – ends. Not a great first set.

Set 2
China-Rider is actually pretty good, so I wonder if the second set got better.
